Canada... Stories (Night-Riot in Quebec?)
...No, I'm not talking about the Paramore song.
Step out your door to a riot squad and see how that bodes with you. Apparently there have been ongoing tuition riots and one happened right next to us. On the first night we saw a protest that was followed by a couple police cars that seemed pretty friendly. That wasn't the case tonight.
I saw people protesting in the streets through our windows so we all ran through building to the doors... Straight into what appeared to be the beginnings of what could be a riot.
A couple other people were out on the doorway looking out at the events. We watched as people passed along the doorway, banging their pots and pans. One of the men stopped and said it was for "human rights." Dunno what that's all about. In any case, a couple seconds later, in marched the police officers. They all carried riot shields and a few wore gas masks and carried riot guns (teargas). These guys looked legit... and I mean legit. They all wore entirely black, shields held in front, their faces were indistinguishable, perhaps from a lack of trying. A few girls on the street saw the policeman and started screaming and running away. Our fellow hostal-mate told us to go back inside for safety. More accurately he said to get the "girls" inside, but I mean who was really listening anyway.
Andrew, at this point, has arrived on the scene and decides it's time to say hello to his friends, the protestees.
So, he yells at the top of his lungs, "BONJOUR! JE SUIS AMERICAIN!" I'm pretty sure it doesn't take a French speaker to figure out what that means. Andrrewww... My dad then ordered us back to our rooms, so I made sure everyone got back to their rooms and then we had our little "fear circle," in which we let loose any feelings necessary. Psha, I have a blog for that. Anyway, we finally traveled back to our rooms to sleep... and here I am...
It has been an interesting night.
