Mystery

A raindrop falls on an amorphous blob.
and rings echo out of its tension.
They slam into one another
getting smaller with each crash
until there are no more waves.
Fire licks at it
but its tongue causes it no harm,
it merely ripples, like it is being tickled.
It seems to be amused.
Slamming steel plates on it, causes it to slip to one side,
then the other.
There is no destroying this thing,
whatever it is.
Magnifying glasses sear into the plasma
scalpels dig into its skin.
It emits a low hum like a purring kitten
it is not concerned.
Over time, it grows larger in the eyes of the researchers
until they see nothing but the blob.
It has taken control, they fail to see anything else.
They are nothing, as it is nothing.
It has them.

Science cannot solve the ultimate mystery of nature. And that is because, in the last analysis, we ourselves are a part of the mystery that we are trying to solve.
